Introduction to Direct Democracy

Maintaining an informed political opinion and exercising democratic power via a party that is supposedly representative can be exhausting. To sieve through the party’s intention on every single policy, scrutinising each one in a world where a growing myriad of complex issues dominate every day life, is unrealistic.

Politicians are untrustworthy. They are also only partially representative. Would it not be a more ‘grown-up’ arrangement if we were instead asked questions more directly? Can we find the precise answer to political issues ourselves, each as individuals? I am imagining something similar to what you might say occurs in a democracy…
